Science – 8th grade
Experiments in science are a great way for students to try with their own hands what we are learning about and not just imagine it but to also see it with their own eyes. 8th graders were learning about solutions, mixtures, elements and compounds. In our lesson we combined what pupils already knew from chemistry (CLIL method) and added some new vocabulary from English. In the experiment pupils were working in small groups and were observing and timing how different substances act in cold and hot water. They were recording their answers in a table and then they were discussing their results, what happened and why were some answers not the same in each group. With these kinds of experiments pupils can remember the curriculum much better, because they were not just reading about it, but they have tried it and have seen the whole process.
